CLAT OVERVIEW

ALL THAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT CLAT

CLAT, which stands for Common Law Admission Test, is a centralised/ a national level test that you need to clear for admission in one of the enlisted National Law Universities in India. The test is taken after the Higher Secondary Examination or the 12th grade for admission to integrated under-graduation programmes in Law and after graduation in Law for Master of Laws (LL.M) programmes conducted by these law universities.
First conducted in 2008 by the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), CLAT is currently conducted by the participating universities on a rotational basis in the order of their establishment.
There are seventeen National Law Universities in India, the first of which is the National Law School of India University, which admitted its first batch of students in 1987. Out of the seventeen, the National Law University, Delhi conducts its own separate entrance test known as All India Law Entrance Test. These Law Universities are:

10. Chanakya National Law University, Patna (CNLU)
11. The National University of Advanced Legal Studies, Kochi (NUALS)

This law entrance exam is of two hours duration. The CLAT question paper consists of 200 multiple choice questions. There are five sections in CLAT exam paper wherein students need to answer questions from subjects such as:
English including Comprehension
General Knowledge and current Affairs
Elementary Mathematics (Numerical Ability)
Legal Aptitude
Logical Reasoning
The English section weights for 40 marks, general knowledge for 50, mathematics for 20, logical reasoning for 40 and legal reasoning for 50. For each correct answer a student can score 1 mark while 0.25 marks get deducted for every incorrect answer.
For someone who is passionate about pursuing a career in Law, CLAT is considered to be a very important exam and hence, it needs to be prepared well and with utmost dedication.
Though, CLAT may be just some other MCQ exam, but to clear CLAT, one needs to have a thorough understanding and knowledge of each section of the exam. Hence, it is important to study and practice each section very well along with being aware about world affairs, latest news and have general knowledge.
CLAT usually takes place in the month of May, so if you have not started preparing for CLAT 2020, it’s the perfect time to start preparing for it. You can start by making a schedule for yourself and start slowly in order to get in the practice of studying every day.
