Here are 25 legal maxims that may be useful for the CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) exam:

1) Ignorantia juris non excusat (Ignorance of the law is no excuse).

2) Res ipsa loquitur (The thing speaks for itself).

3) Audi alteram partem (Hear the other side).

4) In pari delicto (In equal fault).

5)Caveat emptor (Let the buyer beware).

6)Nemo dat quod non habet (No one can give what they do not have).

7) Qui facit per alium facit per se (He who acts through another does the act himself).

8) Actus reus non facit reum nisi mens sit rea (An act is not wrongful unless there is a wrongful intention).

9) Lex non cogit ad impossibilia (The law does not compel a person to do impossible things).

10) Ex turpi causa non oritur actio (No action arises from a base cause).

11) Volenti non fit injuria (To a willing person, no injury is done).

12) Nemo debet bis vexari pro una et eadem causa (No one should be vexed twice for the same cause).

13) Expressio unius est exclusio alterius (The expression of one thing is the exclusion of the other).

14) Ubi jus ibi remedium (Where there is a right, there is a remedy).

15) Qui prior est tempore, potior est jure (He who is first in time has a stronger right).

16) Actio personalis moritur cum persona (A personal action dies with the person).

17) Nemo judex in causa sua (No one should be a judge in his own cause).

18) Causa proxima, non remota, spectatur (The proximate, not the remote, cause is to be considered).

19) Nemo dat quod non habet (No one can give what they do not possess).

20) Necessitas non habet legem (Necessity has no law).

21) Qui jure suo utitur, neminem laedit (He who exercises his legal rights harms no one).

22) Nemo potest facere per alium quod per se non potest (No one can do through another what he cannot do himself).

23) Ignorantia facti excusat, ignorantia juris non excusat (Ignorance of fact excuses, ignorance of law does not excuse).

24) De minimis non curat lex (The law does not concern itself with trifles).

25) Res judicata pro veritate accipitur (A thing adjudicated is accepted as true).
